Lutheran Church in Botswana

LOCATION: Maun • PRIMARY WORK: Christian Outreach • ESTABLISHED: 1996

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Botswana is a member of the Lutheran World Federation. Across Botswana, ELCB has 43 congregations and more than 51 preaching places.
The church works to strengthen congregational life and ministry as well as provide leadership training. It constantly works to build financial self-reliance for its congregations, the bulk of which reside in rural communities. Because Botswana has one the highest rates of AIDS in the world, ELCB works to address HIV/AIDS through its congregations projects; some programs include home-based care, awareness and education, programs for orphans and vulnerable children, counseling and pastoral care and an adult day care program.
In the Maun congregation of ELCB houses the Logaga Support Group for People Living with HIV/AIDS. It provides PLWHA a safe place to meet and support one another with the difficulties of coping with everyday life. The group works on income generating projects such as producing beaded jewelry and crafts and tending to a vegetable garden.
